Maria Joan Hyland

 Maria Joan Hyland (born 6 June 1968) is a novelist. She made her debut in Australia in 2003 with How the Light Gets In. Her second novel Carry Me Down was shortlisted for the 2006 Man Booker Prize and won both the Encore Award and the Hawthornden Prize in 2007. Hyland currently lives in Manchester, England, where she is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Manchester.
